world tiger day

What is the point of driving 4 hrs and not been able to see the tiger ?  A common complaint of the “wildlife tourist”. Firstly, its not a zoo where tiger will pose for you in its enclosure , Secondly there are just ~2,226 tigers left in India , 35% of whom are outside the protected areas and we are billion of us ( so do the math !)  Its World Tiger day , aimed at raising awareness for the apex predator (happens to be our national animal).  We have been working with @Wildlife Trust of India  for past 3 years . Their work on tiger spans multiple areas.

1.Ensuring Tiger corridors ( which lie outside protected areas ) enable easy movement of tigers in Maharashtra

2. Reducing human and tiger conflict through mobile veterinary service in 5 states

3. Removing snares which are used by poachers to trap tigers in Karnataka.

None of this work in near metros , None of it will allow volunteering ( because of risks involved in this work) , but is very important, because if No tigers , all other pieces of our ecosystem fall apart including us. Worldtigerday wildlife corporatesocialresponsibility
